Overview
The Chimney House, also known as Somineli Ev, is located roughly 100 yards from the twin churches. Often called the Venetian House, it presents an intriguing mix of architectural styles: the exterior is Venetian, while the interior reflects Ottoman influences, creating a fascinating blend that symbolizes the layered history of the area. Little is recorded about its early origins, adding to its mysterious charm.
Between 1949 and 1951, the Chimney House was restored for use as a museum, and for a time, it served as temporary storage for pottery unearthed during Famagusta’s archaeological excavations. This restoration marked a new chapter in its history, but in 1957, an internal staircase was installed, followed by lighting in 1959. While these additions helped preserve the building’s use and accessibility, they also resulted in the loss of some original Venetian and Ottoman architectural details.
Today, the Chimney House is well preserved and has become a popular venue for exhibitions and cultural events, allowing visitors to experience both its unique ambiance and the rich history it represents.

It is a great place to shop not too far from New York. We took the bus from Port Authority and traveled through the countryside to get there.
